Professor Jonathan Sackier joined Brandon Medical's Board of Directors in May 2013.
Professor Sackier (FRCS, FACS) is most famously known for performing the world’s first laparoscopic cholecystectomy using robotic assistance. Jonathan trained in Britain at the University of Liverpool as a surgeon and was recruited to the USA in 1989 where he helped lead the laparoscopic surgery revolution. As a Professor at George Washington University, he founded, and funded the Washington Institute of Surgical Innovation and he is a visiting professor of surgery at the University of Virginia.
Jonathan is actively involved with worldwide research into the use of Robotic Enhancement Technology. This work has led to the clinical introduction of a range of robotic interfaces in use around the world. He is also interested in research into the science of minimally invasive surgery and consequent pathophysiological effects. The advances of such surgical techniques benefits the patients in a number of ways including post-operative pain, improved recovery time and shortens the length of hospital stay.
Jonathan’s expertise in surgical techniques helps the company in the development of their products and technologies for surgery and operating theatres. He is the first Consultant Surgeon to enhance our Board of Directors and will reinforce our strategy to provide the most technologically advanced products to the healthcare sector.
