Brandon Medical win Queens Award for Innovation

Brandon Medical has been awarded the most coveted business accolade in the UK – the Queens Award for Enterprise in the Innovation category 2011.

The awards are announced annually by HM The Queen and are only awarded to the companies that demonstrate the highest levels of achievement in each category. To win the Innovation category, businesses must show that they have improved substantially in both performance and commercial success. It was the invention, design and production of their world class medical technology on which Brandon Medical were assessed.

Brandon Medical’s impressive portfolio includes medical lighting, medical AV systems, medical architectural systems and medical control and power. A key feature that helped them to win this prestigious award is the invention and development of HD-LED technology. HD-LED lighting eliminates the traditional blue tint present in ordinary LED lights and allows the accurate representation of natural day light enabling visible colours to be vivid and vibrant. As a result, surgeons can easily distinguish the most minuscule differences in tissues.

Brandon’s latest development that incorporates HD-LED technology is Astramax HD-LED. The most revolutionary feature of Astramax HD-LED is its red balance control. The human eye has a natural weakness in distinguishing shades of red; to counteract this, red LEDs are present in the light which can be adjusted to improve the differentiation between tissues of similar colour.

It is technology like this that stands Brandon apart from other medical technology manufacturers and made the winner for the Queens Enterprise Award for Innovation 2011 a clear decision.

Brandon Medical’s Managing Director, Graeme Hall, comments: “Providing innovative solutions for our customers lies at the heart of Brandon Medical. To be awarded the most prestigious accolade in our field is an absolute honour.”
