The new £220 million Bexley Wing, home to St James' Institute of Oncology, is a state of the art facility, purpose built to consolidate cancer services previously located on four separate sites. The Bexley Wing offers the highest standard of design and quality of environment, including the latest technologies and state of the art equipment supplied and installed by Brandon Medical. This new facility meets the immediate and long-term needs of both staff and patients. The Bexley Wing's MDT (Multi-disciplinary Team rooms have been equipped with Brandon Medical's Symposia, a digital media package for healthcare, providing many features which have made these the most advanced MDT rooms in the country.

Brandon have supplied medical projectors, plasma display, audio system and video conferencing equipment, laptops, S-VHS and DVD players which can display a wide range of video sources. This includes live surgery, PACS, patient information, wet and dry microscopes, document visualisers, audience cameras and video conferencing capabilities with links for external participants. The open architecture of the system Brandon have created allows flexibility in selection of future equipment and suppliers, scalability, as the system can be easily added to, and a high level of interconnectivity both within the Trust and to external parties. The online recording feature enables the video streams from MDT sessions to be recorded centrally and made available for future use as training material. Symposia's i2i, Management Hub, controls user access to both the system and its resources. The entire system is controlled by touch screen controls to provide a simple, easy and attractive user interface.

Brandon believe that it would have been very difficult for any other company to deliver this project due to the numerous and unique mix of skills required. Providing and installing state of the art equipment and technologies, Brandon Medical completed the project within the very demanding timescale of only eight weeks.
