Brandon $2million Lighting Up India

Award-winning Brandon Medical, the Leeds-based leading manufacturer of operating theatre equipment and AV Systems is to start production in India under an agreement with Trivitron Healthcare, India's biggest medical technology provider.

The tie-up with an initial $2m investment by the Leeds company, will enable Brandon to make shadow-less theatre lights in a new joint manufacturing facility at Trivitron's medical technology park in Chennai (formerly Madras).

Production will be under way by the end of the year Brandon's Managing Director Graeme Hall comments: "India's healthcare infrastructure is improving rapidly for both the indigenous population and for health tourism. It is swiftly becoming a favourite destination to visit for surgical interventions and is keen to match its infrastructure and technology with Europe and the US. As a rresult of our decision to expand with a manufacturing facility in Inida, we identified Trivitron as India's best healthcare company. Its creation of a first-of-its-kind, world class medical technology park in Chennai provided an ideal opportunity to establish our first manufacturing base outside the UK. This will be the first facility in India for the manufacture of advanced operating theatre lights.

Trivitron's Managing Dirctor, Dr GSK Velu added: "The focus of our medical technology park is the manufacture of the best equipment for critical care, cardiac care, imaging and routine laboratory diagnostics. The objective is to make high quality, yet cost effctive products suited to the needs of developing countries and achieving savings of up to 40% on the cost of importing equipment."
Ian Williams, Director of policy at Leeds Chamber of Commerce, said "Leeds is a leading Uk centre for healthcare technology and an established world leader in a sector where "Made in Britain" is an important seal of approval. It's great to see an innovative company like Brandon going up a league and establishing a leading international presence in this market."
