Salford Operating Theatres Conference 2026 – Supporting NHS Net Zero

by Christina Hooley

January 27, 2026

We’re delighted to be returning to the Salford Operating Theatres Conference 2026, a CPD-certified event bringing together theatre professionals from across the UK to explore innovation, sustainability and best practice in operating theatre management.

With NHS Net Zero a central theme of this year’s programme, the conference aligns closely with Brandon Medical’s expertise in science, technology and digital transformation — supporting climate-smart healthcare through smarter operating environments.

About the conference

Now in its 11th year, the Operating Theatres Conference focuses on the operational, clinical and environmental challenges facing modern operating theatres.

The 2026 agenda covers key topics including:

  • Achieving NHS Net Zero

  • Human factors in theatre performance

  • High-Intensity Theatre (HIT) lists and efficiency

  • 3D surgical planning in complex procedures

  • Infection control, pressure care and patient safety

  • Staff wellbeing and collaborative working

  • Major Incident Response in the operating theatre

The conference is chaired by Dr Nigel Roberts, Associate Divisional Director at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, with responsibility for Theatres, ICU, Pain, Oral Surgery and Elective Bookings.

Please note: Delegate registrations from suppliers are not accepted. Sponsorship opportunities are available via the organisers.

Climate-Smart Operating Theatres

As healthcare systems work towards Net Zero, operating theatres remain one of the most energy-intensive environments within hospitals.

Brandon Medical supports climate-smart healthcare by combining:

  • Science-led design

  • Advanced technology

  • Digital transformation

Our approach helps hospitals:

  • Reduce energy consumption and waste

  • Improve operational efficiency

  • Capture data to support evidence-based sustainability decisions

  • Build resilience into future theatre infrastructure

Intelligent Theatre Control & Digital Insight

A key enabler of climate-smart operating theatres is data.

Our Intelligent Theatre Control Panel (iTCP) provides a single control surface within the OR, while also acting as a powerful data-gathering tool. By collecting real-time information on:

  • Power usage

  • Equipment status

  • Environmental conditions

…and integrating with Building Management Systems (BMS), the iTCP bridges the gap between clinical and non-clinical systems. This enables smarter energy monitoring, improved reporting and targeted actions to reduce waste — supporting Net Zero goals without compromising patient care.
