Case Study: Brandon Medical's Contribution to the Zambian Healthcare Programme
Background and Challenge
The Zambian Healthcare Programme is an initiative aimed at improving healthcare facilities in Zambia, particularly in underserved areas. As part of this programme, five district hospitals were planned to be constructed, each with two operating theatres and a generalist profile. The challenge was to equip these hospitals with the necessary medical equipment to provide high-quality healthcare services to the local population.
Brandon Medical, a UK-based medical equipment supplier, was selected to provide the necessary medical equipment for the operating theatres in the five district hospitals. James Byers from Brandon Medical expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the hospital projects in Zambia, stating that it was great to see the hospitals coming along nicely.
Brandon Medical provided the following equipment for the operating theatres in each hospital:
Coolview Examination Lights
Quasar eLite Operating Lights (Qe3030 model)
Anteris Operating Tables
Atlas Medical Supply Pendants(Power and Gas)
The partnership between Brandon Medical and NMSI is of great importance for several reasons. Firstly, it demonstrates the impact that such partnerships can have on improving healthcare facilities in developing countries. The Zambian Healthcare Programme is a great example of how private companies can work with local governments and healthcare providers to improve healthcare outcomes for communities in need.
The installation of the equipment provided by Brandon Medical has contributed significantly to the progress of the Zambian Healthcare Programme. The hospitals are nearing completion, with the Mambwe hospital already 100% complete. The other hospitals are at various stages of completion, with Nchelenge at 75%, Mwansabombwe at 69%, Kitwe at 49%, and Ndola at 40%. ( March 2023)
The provision of high-quality medical equipment by Brandon Medical has contributed to the establishment of modern and efficient operating theatres in each hospital. Quasar eLite Operating Lights ensure optimal lighting for surgeries, while the Anteris Operating Tables provide a comfortable and stable platform for surgeries. The Atlas Medical Pendants ensure the availability and efficient distribution of medical gases and supply of safe, stable power during surgeries.
The progress that has been made in the construction of these hospitals is a testament to the hard work and dedication of both companies and their local install partners. The fact that one hospital is already complete and the others are at various stages of completion indicates that the partnership is achieving tangible results.
Brandon Medical’s contribution to the Zambian Healthcare Programme has helped to establish modern and efficient operating theatres in the five district hospitals. The provision of high-quality medical equipment has contributed significantly to the progress of the hospital projects and the overall improvement of healthcare facilities in Zambia. Brandon Medical looks forward to continuing its work across Africa and bringing better healthcare facilities to those who need them.
