Red Boost Surgical Lighting

Adjust red emphasis independently of colour temperature

Colour in the surgical field is information, but “more red” is not the same as “better colour rendering”. Red Boost is designed as a controlled, optional visualisation mode: it increases red spectral content independently of the selected colour temperature so the surgeon can tailor the appearance of the field.

Independant Red control

Independent red control

Red Boost can be selected without changing the overall colour-temperature setting. A dedicated hard control makes the function immediate to access during a procedure, avoiding the need to work through menus when the surgeon wants to change the visual emphasis.

Designed to support visual preference and differentiation

The intended benefit is practical: adjustable red emphasis can help alter the salience of blood-rich and flesh-like targets and can help with tissue differentiation. The surgeon remains in control of whether and when the mode is useful.

What the literature supports

The supplied literature review distinguishes colour fidelity, colour preference and colour discrimination. Those measures are related but not interchangeable. Research supports the principle that carefully optimised spectra can change red chroma, salience and selected contrast tasks, but it does not support a blanket claim that red-enhanced light automatically improves colour fidelity or every clinical task.

That is why Quasar Qi positions Red Boost as a selectable visualisation tool rather than a claim of universal diagnostic improvement.

The current technical table specifies Red Vision Boost Technology across Qi60 iSense, Qi30 iSense, Qi40 iLite, Qi30 iLite and Qi20 iLite.

It increases red spectral content independently of the selected colour temperature, allowing the surgeon to tailor red emphasis without changing the basic character of the white light.

It should not be described that way as a blanket claim. The literature distinguishes colour fidelity from preference and discrimination. Red Boost is better described as a selectable spectral mode that can alter red salience and may help selected differentiation tasks.

The feature is accessed through a dedicated control so it can be selected quickly during a procedure.

The current technical table shows Red Vision Boost Technology on all five Quasar Qi models.

No. It is designed to adjust red content independently of the colour-temperature control.
